New FM Research. Awards Program. Podcast.

6/26/2019 BY Tim Rowe

A number of new items came across my desk in the past few weeks that were all FM-related. I thought I’d share a few with you.

Building Operating Management magazine recently conducted an internal research study. The publication examined FMs purchasing plans for eight different products (Building Automation Systems, CMMS, Energy Submeters, Networked Lighting Controls, Power Generators, Roof Coatings, Security Systems, VRF/Heat Pumps). Here are some quick takeaways.

  • Nearly 1/3 (31%) do not have a good sense of all the possible manufacturers to buy from

This creates a opportunity to build brand awareness among an influential buying group

  • Initial cost and maintenance requirements are the top types of information they wish were readily available

If possible, consider including these in your marketing materials

Do Product Awards Influence FM’s Buying Decisions?

There are several awards programs that recognize manufacturers of facilities products. I’m thinking about conducting research on the impact of such programs on facilities professionals. Questions I may ask facilities executives include:

Do product awards influence the buying decision?

If yes, to what extent?

Do FMs put more credence into some awards program?

If so, which ones?

If you have questions you’d like to include in this survey, please send them to me by July 31st. I will put the survey into the field in early September. Results will be available in October.

A new FM product awards program is the Vision Awards from Building Operating Management, Facility Maintenance Decisions and FacilitiesNet. It recognizes the best products in 9 categories. Minimal cost to enter. Great visibility for the winners.

New Podcast Clues You in on What’s Happening in Facilities Today

It seems like there are podcasts everywhere and for every topic. Facilities Management is no exception. FM’s Next Gen, a podcast from Building Operating Management magazine and FacilitiesNet, talks about what’s coming next in facilities from the perspective of young facilities managers who are shaping the future of the FM profession. Give it a listen and let me know what you think.

If you want custom insights into the FM market, please contact me. I’d be happy to discuss a research report dedicated to your company and your marketing needs. In the meantime, let me know if there’s anything I can do to help you more successfully reach facilities executives.
